Happy Valentine's Day! A few of you have asked for an update on Kiki, and I'm so pleased to let you know that she is doing well! The cyst is smaller, and she seems to be feeling great!

Unfortunately with the Christmas rush, I had to take a break from our trick training, which she has really missed. We'll get back to it soon, and hopefully I'll have another video to share with you next month!

I'm having a sale in all of my Etsy shops until Valentine's Day! Use coupon code "VALENTINE20" at checkout to receive 20% off your purchase. (Please note that I cannot apply the discount for you if you forget to put in the code, sorry!)

I'm so happy to report that Kiki's cyst has continued to shrink in size, and she is feeling great! Thank you again to all of you who have been so supportive in your well wishes, positive thoughts and prayers through this healing journey! (If you're new to my newsletter, and want to know more about Kiki's story, you can go through Kiki's Facebook album where I have chronicled her situation along with photos.)

If you've been following Kiki's story, you will recall that we began clicker training a few months ago. Both Kiki and Killian took to it so well, and have enjoyed it so much! In fact, they pick things up so quickly that I'm being challenged to continue to come up with new tricks for them to learn! We're having so much fun!

One of their tricks is "Birdie Bowling"! Watch the video here, and be sure to follow us on Facebook if you want to see future videos with more of their tricks: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10201558088406498

Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving next week! Take a few moments to reflect on all of the amazing blessings and gifts in your life - and know that I count YOU as one of mine! Thank you so much for your interest in my creations and my life!

I am officially hooked on clicker training! I though you might enjoy seeing some of Kiki's videos, as I have been recording the progress we have made with our adventure into this! It began at the vet's suggestion, as a way to get Kiki past her fear of syringes, to more easily take her medicine without any force.

Well, not only did we achieve that, but Kiki has been such a fast learner, and has so enjoyed clicker training, that we have moved onto more complicated "tricks"! Her favorite is putting coins/buttons into a piggy bank/treasure chest!

What an intense several months it's been! In the time since my last post, much has happened. I have been so deeply touched and moved by the outpouring of love and support that I received after sharing the situation of my Eclectus parrot Kiki's cyst with you all. I had debated about whether to share the story publicly, as my heart was feeling so very raw, and the situation was so personal. Yet somehow, at the same time, I felt compelled to share with you all....and I'm so glad that I did. The depth of what has unfolded through this experience has impacted me so deeply, more than I can put into words here. My heart is so full of gratitude as I look back on all that happened since the end of July. So many incredible people from around the world, from as far-away places as Australia, Malta, and even Iceland, joined together and showered us not only with love, prayers, and support, but contributed to Kiki's vet fund. Within just two days, not only was the target goal reached, but exceeded, thanks to the generosity of so many kind people. I continue to stand in awe. Thank you.....two simple words......yet the gratitude that I am feeling is more than words will ever do justice to.

Thank you....for caring.
Thank you....for sharing YOUR stories.
Thank you....for keeping hope alive.
Thank you....for reminding me that I am not alone.
Thank you....for helping me look for the gifts in the experience, no matter what.
Thank you....for showing me the absolute best of humanity, and shining light into the dark moments.
Thank you....for expressing your love, whether it was through an email, Facebook post, gift, or just letting me know that you were thinking of us and sending prayers and healing wishes for Kiki. You have each made a huge difference, and I am truly grateful.

I am so happy to let you know that Kiki is doing well and seems to be feeling great! She has been through many tests in the past few months, and has handled it all much better than I could have expected. The consensus is still up in the air on the actual diagnosis of the lump. For now, it is being classified as a Xanthoma (a cholesterol filled cyst) even though no cholesterol was found within in. It has baffled not only the avian staff at Iowa State, but world renowned pathologists and avian vets throughout the country, who were consulted. Surgery is on hold for the time being, the ultrasound in September showed more urgent concerns of a degenerate egg and some reproductive issues, so Kiki was given a Deslorelin implant. It went very well, and we are hopeful that it will do the job of keeping her from producing more eggs that could cause issues. Kiki is currently taking an anti-inflammatory med, and the next step will be a re-check of blood work, and possibly a CT scan in the coming weeks.

I am documenting Kiki's unfolding story with photos and updates on Facebook, each step of the way. You are welcome to follow along here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151835904373729.1073741829.137935228728 (You do not have to have a Facebook account to view Kiki's album.) I will keep updating on the Facebook page as we continue on this healing journey. We appreciate your continued thoughts, prayers and love!
